Northfield House, Henlow, Bedfordshire

Date 2025

Northfield House is a Georgian property built some time prior to 1837 in the small village of Henlow, Bedfordshire.

When the current owners bought the house, the building required considerable renovation to make it a suitable home for a young family. With our help, the clients have now completely transformed the property: original fireplaces, doors, windows and Victorian tiling have been restored and hidden doorways reinstated; a wall mural dated to at least the 1900s, once papered over and forgotten has been revealed and remains on view, juxtaposed against the pristine condition of the rest of the sitting room; and a once lost walled garden and pond have been carefully restored.
Architecturally, we have brought back to life a dilapidated widow’s walk on the top floor of the property, enabling the family to enjoy wide views of the surrounding countryside. The main bathroom now also includes a floor to ceiling electric window which conceals the view from outside. Positioned in the walk-in shower area, this means the owners can comfortably take in garden views as they shower. Our design also restored the once grand but crumbling double height porch.
