Home Extension – Ashton-In-Makerfield

Devlin Architects were commissioned to extend a 1970s semi-detached house at the end of a private cul-de-sac in Ashton-in-Makerfield, Wigan. The property had undergone previous adaptations but no longer met the functional needs of the new owners.
The large wrap-around garden offers expansive southern views, creating opportunities to connect the interior with the outdoors. The project brief included a larger kitchen linking the conservatory and reception rooms, a more visible entrance, a separate utility room, downstairs WC, home office/study, additional storage, and flexibility for a potential second storey, along with landscaping works.
The design features a detailed brickwork side extension with expansive openings onto the garden and a flat sedum roof to allow for future adaptation. The brick detailing adds visual interest and character to the exterior. Planning permission was granted in December 2024, and construction is underway, with completion expected by early January 2026.
