Front & rear extensions – High Street, Henlow

Date March 2025

We are often requested to refresh and revamp 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s properties that need to be aesthetically altered, but also to improve the energy efficiency and bring them up to standards.

The clients for this property approached us to gain additional space for their young family and make the most of their fantastic plot with views across their vast garden and the natural landscape beyond. The other factor was to improve the existing appearance and aesthetically alter the street perspective of the property.

The chosen design utilises as much of the existing footprint as possible to not impact their garden – front and back of the house. The scheme includes for the following changes to the massing:

– garage conversion at the front.

– front extension above the garage.

– rear two storey extension.

All these additions will ensure the young family gains the space they require now and in the future. Also, the interior will then be altered to create a large open plan living, dining, and kitchen area for them to enjoy and engages directly with the exterior landscaping.

The exterior of the property is then improved with an insulated render finish throughout but uses a selection of rendering details that will ensure a facade that has depth, charm, and texture. This will include horizontal expressed and recessed courses, rough and smooth textured render, and vertical combing effect. This will dramatically improve the property’s aesthetics whilst also changing their energy efficiency to reduce their carbon emissions and energy bills.

Planning was granted via Central Bedfordshire Planning Department  with things moving forward to construction with the clients.
