House Extension and Alteration, Spur Close, Liverpool

Date July 2023

Located in a suburban quarter of Liverpool, this project involves the transformation of a 1960s–1970s ‘No-Fines’ concrete-built semi-detached home at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac beside the River Alt and its surrounding nature area.

The scheme includes a single-storey rear extension, a two-storey side extension, a loft conversion with a rear dormer, and new hard and soft landscaping. The extensions create two additional bedrooms, including a master suite with dressing and ensuite, and a spacious open-plan kitchen, dining, and living area at ground level. The redesign also introduces a new downstairs WC, utility, and additional storage to better support family living.

Planning permission for the rear and side extensions was granted in early 2025, with the loft conversion to be completed under Permitted Development rights. The final design enhances the existing rendered property with a contemporary addition that adds character and refinement while maintaining harmony with the surrounding context.

A palette of white render, red brickwork, dark grey and black fenestration, and green sedum roofs ensures the proposal blends naturally into its suburban setting. Construction is due to begin in early 2026.
