Rear & Side Extensions – Perne Road, Cambridge

We were approached by the new owners to explore how best to adapt their home to meet a detailed set of requirements. The property is a semi-detached two-storey house from the late Arts and Crafts period (circa 1910s–1920s), sharing a chimney stack with its neighbour.
The home features a red plain tiled roof with matching ridge tiles, red brickwork to the lower half, and painted pebble-dash above, accented by flush brick quoins. Notable details include a two-storey bow window with bracketed gable, an adjacent first-floor oriel window, and a recessed arched entranceway inspired by Edwin Lutyens’ Daneshill House in Hampshire (1903).
The challenge was to create a design that complemented the original while reflecting the clients’ individual needs. The scheme includes a side two-storey extension, a rear single-storey extension, and a dormer loft conversion. Planning permission was granted in March 2022, and the project is currently on site. We will continue to share updates on our social media channels as the work progresses.
