We were approached by a private client to review the most appropriate way to extend their four storey terraced property in Cambridge. We worked closely with the client to review their requirements and formulate a brief prior to starting to piece together the feasibility studies.

The existing property is situated within the a conservation area and is prominent on Victoria Road. The client has been extremely keen to upgrade the property and to be sympathetic to its past architectural quality. The initial works have included refurbishing the front brickwork elevation and replacing the UPVC windows for vertical sliding timber sashes. The next phase is to extend the property to gain additional space internally and completely refurbish the whole property.

The logical extension positions explored were to the roof in the form of dormer extensions to the front and rear, and extending at the rear in the form of a larger outrigger extension. Both propositions would be governed by planning and spatial restrictions but allows for an increase in footprint whilst being sympathetic to the existing.
We created three different feasibility studies that explored how these extensions could work.

We then developed these further and submitted them for planning to Cambridge City Council. We achieved planning permission back in May 2018 and we will keep you posted of any developments and post site photographs during the works.
