We were recently asked to undertake a feasibility study for a new extension to a period property in the village of Gamlingay.  There is a large conservation area within the village boundary that contains a diverse mix of property styles and periods.  4 Church End sits within this conservation area and is a Grade II listed property that was extended back in 2000.

The property is thatched with white rendered walls, and the modern addition followed a similar aesthetic and style.  In order to maintain the level of subordination against the original building, the only choice is to extend at ground floor and to the rear.

We completed a series of sketches for the client in order to assess the most suitable way to extend at the rear and to gain them an extra bedroom and larger entertaining area. The client has chosen not to proceed with an extension to the property.
