This interior reconfiguration will require the replanning of the existing kitchen and dining area to form a substantial open plan living space. In addition, a large mud room will be formed, where outdoor clothing and equipment can be stored.
In order to ensure the best use of natural light and to allow the room can be used to its full potential, a roof light will be incorporated which will run parallel to the main house.
The design of this will require the replacement of the existing pitched roof with a new, easy to maintain ‘green (or living) roof.’ Typically, this type of roof consists of a base, a waterproofing membrane and a layer of vegetation. The benefits of a living roof include low cost and maintenance, environmentally friendly factors, and the ability to offer an additional layer of insulation.
The planning application for this design was sent in to Huntingdon District Council on 17th July 2015. The planning permission was granted with no conditions attached. The construction work was carried out by Boxx Build Solutions Ltd of Bedford with associated subcontractors and suppliers. The new windows and doors are Origin Global products supplied by Open Living based in Letchworth. The construction work was finished in June 2017 with the client looking to progress the replacement of the kitchen and island units at a later date.
